The Ninja ZX-6R has proved a potent weapon in the hands of both Kawasaki DeltaFin Lorenzini riders this year, but Sofuoglu has been able to see things through to the end more often. He is now in an enviable ten point lead of the championship, after scoring a first, a second and a third, his run of podium omnipresence only marred by a no-score at Imola.
Kenan is a two-time champion in this class and is clearly enjoying the new experience of racing the middleweight Ninja ZX-6R against the best Supersport teams in the world, even as he has carried a knee injury around since the second round at Imola. Now back to his best fitness, he knows that if he finds a good set-up quickly in practice he should be able to compete for wins on raceday, Sunday 13 May.
Sheridan has had a few tough moments this year, including a painful crash in treacherous conditions at Monza last time out, but he is fully intent on returning to shoot for his first podium at Donington, a circuit he knows and rates highly even if he has not raced there for a few years.
Strong 2012 runner for Kawasaki Fabien Foret (Kawasaki Intermoto Step Racing) had a miserable experience at the last round in Monza, losing his joint lead with Sofuoglu by finishing 12th to his third. He is up for the fight again at Donington, however, as like Kenan he goes after his second race win of the 2012 season.
Romain Lanusse, Fabien’s youthful partner in the Intermoto Step Team, is out to take his points tally into double figures after the Donington race, as he currently sits on a total of eight. With no race for the Supersport crews at the next round after Donington, Miller Motorsports Park in the USA, the WSS grid will reconvene at Misano in Italy between June 8 and 10.
Kenan Sofuoglu:
“I know one thing for Donington, Friday may be difficult because we have to find a way to set-up the bike for myself as it is our first time there together, but if all is OK then on Saturday we will be very strong and we should have a good weekend. Any track is no problem for me because I like all the tracks, it is just important that we bring a good set-up and then I am sure we can do it. Hopefully there we can go for the win.”Sheridan Morais:
“We restart again at Donington and I will be OK for that. I have only ridden there in 2008 so it has been a while but I do like it for sure. Up and down, awesome. Hopefully we should have some better weather there. I was checking the weather while we were getting rained on at Monza and it was better at Donington, so we all hope that continues.”Note: Free Ninja ZX-6R
