Based in Kent, Spirit of the Seventies is a partnership that specialises in reimagining machines both old and new and injecting a highly personal spark that is simply not possible with a mass produced vehicle.

Already popular with customisers the world over – and with legions of fans that have taken to its authentic looks and riding response in standard form – the W800 was the ideal donor machine according to Kawasaki’s David Edwards who is overseeing the project from the manufacturer’s side.

“We loved the updated 1977 Z750 twin the guys created last year and so, when we thought about commissioning a one-off bike, Spirit of the Seventies were the logical choice.

They’ve already created some design proposals and, to be fair, every concept tabled is worth realising so it’s going to be a hard choice to decide which one to go for”

The project is not going to be constructed in secret being closed doors though – far from it in fact. With progress being blogged and regular updates on the Kawasaki Facebook and Twitter sites, the build will have a real community feel according to Edwards.

“As soon as the practicalities of the final chosen design are ironed out we are off and running and Kawasaki News UK Facebook fans are being involved at a very early stage.

We want them to work alongside Spirit of the Seventies by voting on a name for the project bike and also deciding on a custom colour scheme that is fitting for such a unique machine.”
