After success in both motocross and supermoto as a teenager the native of the Vosges region of eastern France claimed his first international title in the FIM European EMX250 Championship at the age of nineteen, adding an MX2 GP bronze medal before a sensational entry to the premier MXGP class in 2015 when he clinched the world title as a rookie and has remained a top contender ever since. At the end of the 2019 season Romain jumped at the opportunity to join the Kawasaki Racing Team and the synergy has been one of outstanding success.

The universally-popular rider’s smooth and highly-effective riding style and his ultimate fairness have blended impeccably with the technical reliability and outstanding power and handling of the KX450-SR to such effect that throughout the collaboration he has only finished outside the top-six on six occasions from sixty starts. Missing the world title by the narrowest of margins at the very last moto of the 2021 campaign off-season injuries kept him out of action for several months at the start of the following year but he staged a remarkable comeback during the second-half of the season, building decisively race-by-race to claim victory in the final moto of the campaign.

Forced to sit out the early-season Spanish GP after suffering a mild concussion in a start corner collision during Qualifying Romain faced a mountain to climb last summer but he responded magnificently to claim six GP victories, including five-in-a-row, and seven further podiums on his way to the series silver medal. He rounded out the season by leading France to victory in the Motocross of Nations.

The thirty-two-year-old enters the 2024 campaign confident of continuing those winning ways with Kawasaki in search of that elusive FIM Gold.
