The Swiss utilised KX450-SR traction and performance to perfection as he powered across the pack from a central gate to holeshot the Qualifying race. Within a few turns he had been pushed back to third after jumping out of a berm but then settled down into a solid rhythm, only surrendering one further position to an acknowledged sand specialist at half-distance, for his best Qualifying result of the season-to-date in fourth.
 
Jeremy Seewer: "I know you only need to be around the top-fifteen to the gate to take the start here so I wasn't stressed this morning when I didn't post a top lap. I knew this was going to be a tough GP for me on such a brutal track as we are still learning a new bike together at this stage of the season; we start each GP one step behind a host of champions on set-up and that is particularly tough on this type of track so taking the holeshot was really positive as it confirmed that we are progressing well together. Fourth today was really good, so I will try to keep my momentum, stay calm, focus on my riding and my laps, and hopefully we will come away with a similar result tomorrow. It wasn't really hot like in mid-summer today and we are not used to it with temperatures around ten degrees in Belgium, but I prefer when it is warm so that was nice."
 
Romain Febvre, fifth in a tight Timed Practice session, opted for a mid-gate start position in the Qualifying race to open up the angle of entry to the first turn, but the Frenchman fell after touching with another rider at the apex of the corner and faced a long tough chase from the back of the pack. Within two laps he already had the top-ten in his sights but damage from the first-turn incident forced him out of the race and he will start from the outside gate in tomorrow's GP motos. 
 
The Bike It Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team duo of Jack Chambers and Bobby Bruce in the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship faced a difficult Qualifying race. Bruce was looking at a solid top-twenty finish in seventeenth until pushed downfield by a late fall while Chambers was already tailed off behind the rest of the field by twenty seconds leaving turn one after being shunted off the track into a ditch. Setting similar lap times to the top-ten he was determinedly homing in on a top-twenty finish until a fall spoilt his chances and he too will start from the outside of the grid in each of tomorrow's GP motos.
