Hectic weekend for Dylan Ferrandis

Dylan Ferrandis of Team CLS Kawasaki Monster Energy had an action-packed weekend in the Czech round of the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship at Loket.

The French youngster set the fastest time in each of the practice sessions and was one of the hot favourites to win the GP, but an incident with another rider on the first lap of racing forced him to stop at the pits for repairs to a damaged pipe and, despite setting the fastest lap, he just missed the points-scoring positions in twenty-first. After a midfield start in race two he again rode strongly to finish second and remains fourth in the series standings with three GPs remaining.

Thomas Covington advanced strongly at the rate of one place each lap until he was ninth in the opening GP moto, but, fatigued by a heavy training schedule, was forced to withdraw from racing and did not start race two.

Arnaud Tonus had hoped to return to action in this GP, but, after suffering discomfort in his shoulder during a midweek training session, he wisely decided to postpone his comeback.

Tommy Searle, the CLS rider in the MXGP world series, was handicapped all weekend by a thumb injury sustained the previous weekend at a national race in England; this hindered his ability to apply the brakes, a particular disadvantage on the hilly Czech track, but he battled resolutely to finish both motos in eighteenth and ninth positions; he remains twelfth in the series standings, but has moved closer to the top ten.

Dylan Ferrandis: “ It was not a good weekend, even if on Saturday I showed that I was the fastest in both practice sessions. But on Sunday I lost all my chances during the opening lap as another rider jumped on my bike and forced me to stop; when I could start again I was last, and the pipe was damaged so I had to stop at the pits to repair it. I tried to come back and I posted the fastest lap time but just missed the points when I finishing 21st. My start in the second race was not as good as the first one but I moved forward to second to show again, as in Sweden and Finland, that at the moment I’m really fast on my bike.”

Tommy Searle: “Last week during a British race I injured my right thumb, and it was really difficult for me to hold the handlebars but I did what I could. I had an injection on Sunday and did my best to get some points in both races. I know that Lommel will also be tough but then we have several weeks without any races, so I will be able to recover.”
