Öncü Looks To Jerez After Missing Estoril Races

Can Öncü (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) suffered a deep knee wound on the first day of action at the FIM Supersport World Championship round at Estoril and he was unable to compete in either race.

Can is now hoping to be declared fit to race in the next and final WorldSSP round of the season, at the Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto, between 18-20 October. This will also be the final outing for the 599ccc Ninja ZX-6R in WorldSSP.

Next season Kawasaki Puccetti Racing will compete with a 636cc version of the Ninja ZX-6R that is going through the official homologation process at present, in order to be ready for the first round of the new WorldSSP season at Phillip Island in Australia in late February.

Manuel Puccetti, Team Principal, commented: “We’re really sorry that bad luck again struck Can Öncü, a knee injury forcing him to miss both of the Estoril races. We hope he can return in time for Jerez, because we want to finish in a positive way.”

Guillermo Moreno (Viamo by MTM Kawasaki) took part in Race Two at Estoril on Sunday 13 October and finished in 22nd place, after a challenging Sunday in Portugal. He fell in the race at T3, remounted, then headed back into pitlane for repairs to his machine. He would re-enter the track to finish the race four laps down on the leading riders but gain more experience.
